Though CAP is known for its flying missions, CAP’s adult (senior) members do much more than that. Less than a fifth of all CAP members are pilots or aircrew members. CAP senior members come from all walks of life. Some are doctors, nurses, paramedics or other medical professionals. Others are lawyers, paralegals, accountants, computer programmers and other business professionals and executives. Mechanics, cooks, teachers, police officers, clergy and parents; really, just about any career or background can be useful to and found in the ranks of CAP senior membership. CAP supports a variety of missions that require adults from all walks of life.

In emergency services operations we not only need aircrew members, but also ground team members to aid in the rescue of survivors or to assess damage after a disaster. IMG_0025CAP needs communications personnel to relay critical messages when there is limited or no telephone support. CAP needs administrative staff, financial managers and logistics and supply personnel to document missions and obtain critical supplies and equipment in the field that is needed to conduct successful missions.

CAP also needs adults to support the cadet program. CAP has more than 22,000 cadets across the country that are in need of mentors willing to help guide and support them. The CAP cadet program provides children and young adults between the ages of 12 and 21 a well-rounded program of leadership, aerospace education, physical IMG_1744fitness and moral and ethical decision-making. In today’s world, we need good people that are willing to step up and provide a healthy, drug-free environment to develop tomorrow’s leaders. Many former cadets have gone into the military, government jobs or private sector employment where they can and do make a difference and really excel. Many general officers once served as cadets, along with senators and congressmen, CEOs and corporate executives, and others that give credit to CAP for helping them get where they are today; but to do that requires the help of interested adults.

CAP also needs adults for its aerospace education program. In addition to educating our own members, CAP’s adult leaders provideCPCOScadetsmapsized training and resources to teachers that reach out to students of all ages. It is amazing how much aviation and aerospace impacts the everyday lives of each and every one of us, and CAP tries to ensure that its senior members and the American public know the roles that aviation and aerospace play in our lives.

Essentially, there is a place for any interested adult to join and contribute to CAP.
